This pattern change in addition to my shortcut for cutting the diamonds, makes this block super easy. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;">And just look at these beauties....</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;"></span> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--LdK1LOds6Y/UZLgx3LDczI/AAAAAAAAAjQ/QsReSrwQoc8/s1600/DSC02149.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--LdK1LOds6Y/UZLgx3LDczI/AAAAAAAAAjQ/QsReSrwQoc8/s640/DSC02149.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M3PjTCiLoo4/UZLg0fZkbGI/AAAAAAAAAjY/L5ZIRf7q17w/s1600/DSC02148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M3PjTCiLoo4/UZLg0fZkbGI/AAAAAAAAAjY/L5ZIRf7q17w/s640/DSC02148.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The background fabric is Kona Snow and it really brings out the color in the prints. I also love how the center diamonds in the top block make a tiny pinwheel in the yellow and white fabric. This was totally by accident but a great effect.<br />
<br />
My plan is to use the leftover fabrics from the Quilts for Boston blocks to make an Arkansas Traveler Quilt. <br />
<br />
I still have two more QfB blocks to make to finish my twelve blocks and here is what I've done since I showed you Block #5 - Arkansas Traveler (from the original pattern) last week. <br />
<br />
Here's my progress over the past weekend....<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Block #6</span> - <strong><span style="color: #e69138; font-size: large;">Banded Star</span></strong> pattern from <span style="color: blue;">Jennifer Ofenstein at sewhooked.com</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QrOCtPMRykY/UZLmBy5JkzI/AAAAAAAAAjo/6vapx3byYos/s1600/DSC02144.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QrOCtPMRykY/UZLmBy5JkzI/AAAAAAAAAjo/6vapx3byYos/s640/DSC02144.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Block #7</span> - <span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: #e69138;"><strong>ET Phone Home </strong><span style="color: #444444; font-size: small;">pattern</span></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"> by <span style="color: blue;">Lily's Quilts</span></span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g-U5rXzbltM/UZLmFpcqSgI/AAAAAAAAAjw/zVG1QPYDdqY/s1600/DSC02147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g-U5rXzbltM/UZLmFpcqSgI/AAAAAAAAAjw/zVG1QPYDdqY/s640/DSC02147.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">AAAGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! This was the absolute worst experience in paper piecing for me. The eight sections came together fairly easily; then when I was trying to sew the sections together, I couldn't get anything to line up. I must have ripped out the four center seams at least 10 times before accepting defeat and then needed extra ironing muscle to flatten out the center section. This block will look fine once it is machine quilted, nevertheless, I decided to take a break from paper piecing for a while.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Block #8 - Disappearing 4 Patch</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MhtR8CO694I/UZLmIrQCJjI/AAAAAAAAAj4/L7PPBXgfy-E/s1600/DSC02145.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MhtR8CO694I/UZLmIrQCJjI/AAAAAAAAAj4/L7PPBXgfy-E/s640/DSC02145.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Block #9 - Disappearing Nine Patch</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2vG-ve3IW9E/UZLmLAHWHEI/AAAAAAAAAkA/wQaDkNQhn5U/s1600/DSC02143.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2vG-ve3IW9E/UZLmLAHWHEI/AAAAAAAAAkA/wQaDkNQhn5U/s640/DSC02143.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This block was deliberately trimmed for the wonky effect. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Block #10 - Disappearing Nine Patch</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GP3YONpYI68/UZLmOKQ9cZI/AAAAAAAAAkI/9IUAsMqk2-Q/s1600/DSC02146.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GP3YONpYI68/UZLmOKQ9cZI/AAAAAAAAAkI/9IUAsMqk2-Q/s640/DSC02146.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So there you have my QfB progress over the weekend. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm back paper piecing again today with the Arkansas Traveler blocks, so my frustration didn't last more than a couple of days. I probably will try the ET block again sometime in the future, hopefully with better results. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That's it for now. Hope you'll come back to see more of my quiltiness.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: #444444;">My shortcut for cutting and creating diamonds worked perfectly every time, so I plan to share this process with</span> <span style="color: blue;">Lee Heinrich at Freshly Pieced</span>. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5SrTf1CirCs/UYxMLVPSbnI/AAAAAAAAAio/piWntEHFsig/s1600/DSC02142.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5SrTf1CirCs/UYxMLVPSbnI/AAAAAAAAAio/piWntEHFsig/s640/DSC02142.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;">Speaking of Lee, towards the end of yesterday's post, I wrote about this block and incorrectly attributed the design to</span> <span style="color: blue;">Faith Jones at Fresh Lemons Quilts</span>. <span style="color: #444444;">I edited yesterday's post with the correct information.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;">Lee and Faith are collaborators with </span><span style="color: blue;">Katie Blakesley at Swim, Bike, Quilt</span> <span style="color: #444444;">and they created and hosted the Summer Sampler Series quilt-a-long during July and August 2011. Earlier this year, they published the <u>Summer Sampler Series Anthology</u> and I was thrilled to purchase it.</span></span><span style="color: #444444;"> </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;"> As you probably figured out, the</span> <span style="color: #b45f06;"><strong><span style="color: #e69138;">Arkansas Tr</span><span style="color: #e69138;">aveler</span></strong></span> <span style="color: #444444;">is one of the blocks in this anthology.</span></span><span style="color: #444444;"> </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The block came out okay; I'm still not thrilled with the center joining. There are twelve separate seams converging in the center and the bulk was simply very difficult to sew; I guess I have to dig out the walking foot. I also didn't plan properly which diamonds I wanted to point towards the center; hence the off kilter background pieces and the duplication of colors. I've got the process organized for the actual quilt. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After the block was finished, I thought about the pattern as written and played around with it to potentially eliminate four of the center seams. So now, I have to make another block to test the re-written pattern.....then I'll contact Lee and run the changes and shortcut by her.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial;">Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be teaching another crochet class as the fill-in instructor at the Fleming Island Michaels, so I probably won't post my progress on the pattern re-write or my blocks for Boston until the weekend.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Arial;">See you then.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I actually finished the Lone Starburst block the day after my last post and can confirm the designer is <span style="color: blue;">Anna Politzer</span> from <span style="color: blue;">Six White Horses Studio</span>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZRPdyDWTJb8/UYsDHNRkEnI/AAAAAAAAAgs/7xBtgAZ6Sfc/s1600/DSC02119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZRPdyDWTJb8/UYsDHNRkEnI/AAAAAAAAAgs/7xBtgAZ6Sfc/s640/DSC02119.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I really liked the blue and decided to go with it in the center.</span> <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I did clean up the white threads on the horizontal center seam; only needed one minor adjustment to have everything line up nicely. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So then I started to organize the fabrics and the patterns for the remaining eight blocks. My goal is to send 12 blocks to the Boston Modern Quilt Guild for the Quilts for Boston. Twelve blocks with coordinated fabrics will make a very nice 36" by 48" comfort quilt. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So I took a minor sewing break and played around reading all the other blogs I follow and noticed the due date for the <span style="color: red;">to Boston with Love</span> flags was moved up to May 21st. Oh oh....I hadn't even started working on these yet. So it was necessary to switch gears.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I was only going to make a couple of flags using the paper piecing patterns from the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild. Then I got carried away when I thought about the "B Strong" slogan that is appearing everywhere in Boston. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So I ended up cutting out felt letters and appliqueing them to the flags. I have my contribution displayed on my design center (aka my bed) and put them in the mail yesterday. Amy Friend should be getting them tomorrow. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CWaXj_cnMKY/UYsF6gR3ZuI/AAAAAAAAAg4/PVMSyqrOpVw/s1600/DSC02126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CWaXj_cnMKY/UYsF6gR3ZuI/AAAAAAAAAg4/PVMSyqrOpVw/s640/DSC02126.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here's a close-up of the applique; although it looks like a zigzag stitch in the photo....it's actually a blanket stitch. I also love the background fabric.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jZQfgPO-_Ik/UYsF9ZgLlMI/AAAAAAAAAhE/9s4Ni0VWzzQ/s1600/DSC02128.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jZQfgPO-_Ik/UYsF9ZgLlMI/AAAAAAAAAhE/9s4Ni0VWzzQ/s640/DSC02128.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I alternated the backing and binding so from the reverse the flags would have a little character.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0JpAHRo1X4g/UYsGCpttUtI/AAAAAAAAAhY/6xV1NAp3tXQ/s1600/DSC02130.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0JpAHRo1X4g/UYsGCpttUtI/AAAAAAAAAhY/6xV1NAp3tXQ/s400/DSC02130.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The other three flags were paper pieced or strip pieced.</span><br />

<span style="color: #444444;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">So now I'm back to quilt blocks for Quilts for Boston and decided to make the</span> <span style="color: #e69138;"><strong>Arkansas Traveler</strong></span> block from <span style="color: blue;">Lee Heinrich at Freshly Pieced. </span><span style="color: #444444;">I think I figured out a shortcut to cutting all those small 60 degree diamonds, and I'm working on documenting this process while I make the block, so the block progress is going a bit slower than normal. Who knows, after I run this by Lee, I might have my very first tutorial to post. To ensure I can successfully replicate the shortcut, I have to make a lot more sections than are needed for just the one block, so I can see an Arkansas Traveler quilt in someone's future.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here's the first batch of fabric which I actually purchased for the 12.5 inch quilt blocks.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2z8kMveAv1c/UXsyhj3Fa9I/AAAAAAAAAcA/GdBH0uMB32c/s1600/DSC02091.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2z8kMveAv1c/UXsyhj3Fa9I/AAAAAAAAAcA/GdBH0uMB32c/s640/DSC02091.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is what I pulled from my stash to join </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">those above.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Myx6gRVi7FU/UYHC46J9VUI/AAAAAAAAAfc/vQoA5R7pzLo/s1600/DSC02114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Myx6gRVi7FU/UYHC46J9VUI/AAAAAAAAAfc/vQoA5R7pzLo/s640/DSC02114.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And here are the blues, teals, and yellows left over from the Bloom Bloom Pow Quilt-along</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VNZZ2nhUXaA/UYHC7IIM66I/AAAAAAAAAfk/bN3iOb9Bymw/s1600/DSC02113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VNZZ2nhUXaA/UYHC7IIM66I/AAAAAAAAAfk/bN3iOb9Bymw/s640/DSC02113.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My plan is to make 12 Blocks for "Quilts for Boston" and the first block I made </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">is the foundation paper pieced <span style="color: blue;">Circle of Geese, </span><span style="color: black;">a pattern from <strong><span style="color: #e69138;">Beth Cheri at Pieced By Numbers</span></strong>. I used a few blue and grey tones from the Swirl Charm packs by Whistler Studios at Windham Fabrics, since I didn't pull enough blues from my stash until after this was done. The background white is "Snow" from Kona, which I think is a whiter white.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: black;"></span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3XQ2jSOQZmE/UYCQBnpQp8I/AAAAAAAAAeo/qgOJz1X4_KY/s1600/DSC02103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3XQ2jSOQZmE/UYCQBnpQp8I/AAAAAAAAAeo/qgOJz1X4_KY/s640/DSC02103.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second block is a crazy foundation paper pieced pattern called <span style="color: blue;">Log Cabin Heart</span> from <span style="color: #e69138;"><strong>Jennifer Ofenstein at sewhooked.com</strong>. </span><span style="color: #444444;">Jennifer is the admin for the Addicted to Paper Piecing flickr group, so I uploaded the photo below today, so she could see what I did with <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">her pattern.</span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #e69138;"></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aJoZFt1FN10/UYCQH1ATwPI/AAAAAAAAAfA/GABigf6WG7I/s1600/DSC02107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aJoZFt1FN10/UYCQH1ATwPI/AAAAAAAAAfA/GABigf6WG7I/s640/DSC02107.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I wasn't sure what border I was going to use when I started piecing it from scraps....and wished I had the foresight to use the flowered print in the border and the plain yellow as the background so the heart popped more. I guess I'll just have to make another and see.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The third block is a pieced heart I saw on the <span style="color: blue;">Boston Modern Quilt Guild</span> <span style="color: #444444;">flickr site by Alidiza. The pattern is called </span><span style="color: blue;">Heart & Soul</span> <span style="color: #444444;">by</span> <strong><span style="color: #e69138;">I'm a Ginger Monkey</span></strong> <span style="color: #444444;">for the Aurifil April Block of the Month. I also follow Katy Jones as she monkeys around the United Kingdom.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cG_gMhntS3M/UYHC8vO_T5I/AAAAAAAAAfs/YcyDE7hjL0w/s1600/DSC02109.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cG_gMhntS3M/UYHC8vO_T5I/AAAAAAAAAfs/YcyDE7hjL0w/s640/DSC02109.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For some reason I don't have great luck when piecing these small blocks. I was purposely methodical and slow when cutting, and even trimmed the blocks to a perfect 2.5 inches before piecing them and I still spent almost two hours ripping out seams to line them up properly. </span><br />
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><span style="color: #444444;"> </span></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><span style="color: #444444;"> </span></div>
<span style="color: black; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;">The fourth block is still a work in progress. This bordered star pattern was not created by me and unfortunately, there was nothing in the pdf file or on this pattern printout to identify this specific designer. I remember finding it by accident after having difficulty printing the</span> <span style="color: blue;">Lone Starburst Quilt Block</span> <span style="color: #444444;">from</span> <span style="color: #e69138;"><strong>Anna Politzer</strong></span> <span style="color: #e69138;"><strong>at</strong> </span><strong><span style="color: #e69138;">Six White Horses Studio</span></strong>. <span style="color: #444444;"> It is the exact same pattern, so I'll have to give credit to Anna.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="color: black; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was planning on having half the star center be the yellow print; then I thought about alternating the yellow and blue star diamonds, but I'm not sure yet. I really love this blue fabric (pattern and hues), but it may be too dark and overpowering. I'm also thinking about sewing a slash with the yellow fabric on a couple of the blue center points. You'll just have to tune back in tomorrow to see what I actually did.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is the first quilt related photo I've taken outdoors using natural light. The colors really show up well even in the late afternoon. I really like how the colors pop on the travertine tile.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Lee from <em><span style="color: #674ea7;">Fleshly Pieced</span></em> sends out weekly posts with instructions for cutting and piecing and I was almost four weeks behind. I cut all the Pearl Bracelet fabric and half of the white pieces Wednesday.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We had a beautiful sunny morning on Thursday and the natural light in the Maus's Sewing Room was perfect </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">for sewing and photography. With coffee mug safely tucked away from my sewing area, I began piecing the strips.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The dark strips needed to be offset to correctly cut the triangles.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Iv8vmrdUFzw/UXs5NVDFUUI/AAAAAAAAAdM/eLeR-4gqYz0/s1600/DSC02065.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Iv8vmrdUFzw/UXs5NVDFUUI/AAAAAAAAAdM/eLeR-4gqYz0/s640/DSC02065.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have to admit I was a little leery of making a quilt using equilateral triangles, but Lee's process takes all the guess work out of it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Next we sew three triangles into half hexagons....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gy9l51vrURo/UXs5ErNtTLI/AAAAAAAAAc0/-uJdv0MYtm8/s1600/DSC02060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gy9l51vrURo/UXs5ErNtTLI/AAAAAAAAAc0/-uJdv0MYtm8/s640/DSC02060.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This was the first part of last week's instructions. Of course, knowing I tend to get board doing the same thing over and over, I jumped around and sewed strips, cut triangles and then made half hexies, before piecing every color. I'm combining different steps from the last three and a half weeks of quilt-along just to keep myself entertained. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">By Thursday dinner time, I had almost half (actually 47%) the half hexies done and the rest not even started. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7_hE2mybkX0/UXs5S5Ih2pI/AAAAAAAAAdc/kzV9R8_ZJcY/s1600/DSC02088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7_hE2mybkX0/UXs5S5Ih2pI/AAAAAAAAAdc/kzV9R8_ZJcY/s640/DSC02088.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All the half hexies were completed yesterday and today, I finalized the layout and joined them into rows. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3dP0cvTNius/UX8bTaG8lWI/AAAAAAAAAdw/fBWZlImErFk/s1600/DSC02098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3dP0cvTNius/UX8bTaG8lWI/AAAAAAAAAdw/fBWZlImErFk/s640/DSC02098.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A lot of quilters have design boards or use the floor to arrange their quilt pieces, And although you can eat off my floors....I just can't make myself put my clean fabric on the floor. So, I use my king-sized bed or the queen sized guest bed as my design centers which allow me to play with the layouts and the color arrangements without having to get down and then back up from the floor numerous times.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I began to sew the 11 rows together and noticed I wasn't getting all the point intersections to line up perfectly. The photo below is close but will need a slight adjustment.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f5DFmZhyIsI/UX8bVlm9_5I/AAAAAAAAAd4/peguG47RAsk/s1600/DSC02099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f5DFmZhyIsI/UX8bVlm9_5I/AAAAAAAAAd4/peguG47RAsk/s640/DSC02099.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Just to the left of the slightly misaligned points above is the orange bloom below and that center is off by a quarter of an inch. The rest of the row looks good, so I'll just adjust the triangle seams a bit until the points line up. So glad I didn't press any of he seams yet; ripping out heat set stitches is never fun.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dHlVUfb79MY/UX8bWwVmaiI/AAAAAAAAAeA/NB1oohKOdo4/s1600/DSC02100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dHlVUfb79MY/UX8bWwVmaiI/AAAAAAAAAeA/NB1oohKOdo4/s640/DSC02100.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am pleasantly surprised at how large this quilt is. It will make a good quilt for the San Pedro Munchkin. I'll have to find the right purple tones for the back.</span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I probably won't blog about this one again until she is all finished and ready for her trip to California. I have until December to make that happen.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So now my focus can be the blocks and banners for Boston. More on my progress with those in tomorrow's post. See you then.</span></div>

I copied the following button from the Boston Modern Quilt Guild blog and I think it clearly represents the resilience of the people of Greater Boston. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6b5vG8nqfFc/UXKT7tvoxJI/AAAAAAAAE0E/6Uuvn3bQgiM/s1600/b_strong_white.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_uid_980384867="1" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6b5vG8nqfFc/UXKT7tvoxJI/AAAAAAAAE0E/6Uuvn3bQgiM/s320/b_strong_white.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">We're hearing so much about the evil perpetrators of the heinous attack and not enough about the victims, who will undoubtedly need financial assistance as well as, our love and support. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here is a link to the fund announced by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor, Thomas Menino to help the relief efforts for those who suffered horrific injuries on April 15, 2013.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I was also heartened by the outpouring of love within the quilting community..... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://vancouvermodernquiltguild.ca/blog/2013/04/to-boston-with-love/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-flcv5HJgTe0/UXRE6HP4lxI/AAAAAAAAE0c/rSxrDdIzqoA/s1600/logo-300x300.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">And a few days ago, </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">the Boston Modern Quilt Guild, of which I am a member, put out the call to quilters worldwide to send in completed blocks so they could make comfort quilts for those affected by the terrorist attack.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here is a link to their post requesting blocks....<a href="http://bostonmqg.blogspot.com/2013/04/quilts-for-boston.html" target="_blank">Quilts for Boston</a> and a photo from the BMQG blog displaying the fabric color palette for the blocks which must be postmarked by May 24th. </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/greenleafgoods/8669758053/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Quilts for Boston Color Scheme by greenleaf goods, on Flickr"><img alt="Quilts for Boston Color Scheme" height="357" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8399/8669758053_b8c57caa4d.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today's BMQG post showed a photo of the first block received and it has only been a couple of days since they put out the call.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Many of the inspiring quilters behind the quilt blogs I regularly follow have already posted photos of the blocks they've made for Boston, so I knew I needed to check my stash and join this effort.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here's a photo of the fabric I purchased today when I really should have been looking through my fabric stash. I have some yellow, teal and blue Pearl Bracelet fabric left over from the Bloom Bloom Pow Quilt-a-long I'm doing with Lee at Freshly Pieced and that will fit in perfectly with my fabric bundles below. I may have to find more blues to balance the grays.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2z8kMveAv1c/UXsyhj3Fa9I/AAAAAAAAAcA/GdBH0uMB32c/s1600/DSC02091.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2z8kMveAv1c/UXsyhj3Fa9I/AAAAAAAAAcA/GdBH0uMB32c/s640/DSC02091.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Now I just have to decide what blocks I want to make. I'm giving myself one week to make 10 to 12 blocks for the BMQG.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So stay tuned.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It is also something that's said between the Maus and her brother Eric whenever one of us is out of touch for a bit of time. Don't you love how I occasionally refer to myself in the third person? Just seeing if you're all actually paying attention to my ramblings.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, I finally remembered I have this little blog here and decided it was time to update it. I last posted something on Palm Sunday eve and then focused all my energies on Holy Week. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">After that, Bubba and I took a week long trip to Kissimmee, Florida where we've had a timeshare condo for almost 30 years. It was really great to have this timeshare week when we lived in Connecticut and then in Northern Virginia. And now that we're only two and half hours north of Orange Lake Country Club, we haven't been as often. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The week began with us relaxing as we got in a round of golf and I then went looking for a church to attend Mass and found a wonderful Parish Church called St. Faustina's nearby. Where better to attend Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday but in a church named after the patron saint of Divine Mercy?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">While Bubba continued golfing, I spent a bit of time with a very special lady, Jadeine Shives of the Convention and Visitor's Bureau in Kissimmee. I contacted her before our trip south so I could line up a hotel and develop an activities plan for the 796th Military Police Battalion Association 2013 Reunion. I'll blog more about this event in the future. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The day we got home, I went right over to Aimee's house (see the previous blog) and started making up the Silent Auction baskets for Marissa's Fundraiser. We were truly blessed to have so many beautiful items donated....and while Aimee was in Vegas, she tasked me with putting the donated items into visually appealing baskets. We had two live auction items (think big ticket hotel vacations) and 63 baskets/items in the Silent Auction. The event on April 20th was a huge success and Marissa's team raised over $12,000 for Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Prior to Holy week, I sent my Quilt-a-long with the Sewing Loft and Patchwork Posse quilt out to my dear friends at the Missouri Star Quilt Company for some stippling machine quilting. I got it back the same day we arrived home from vacation and had plenty of time to add the hand sewn binding. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here are a few photos of the finished quilt.....</span><br />

</span><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The quilt sold for $110 at the Silent Auction. Robert Robertson, who also hails from my neck of the woods in Massachusetts, bought it for his Mom. Thank you, Robert. I hope she enjoys it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I gave Marissa a choice of quilts for the Silent Auction.....and she was undecided until she saw the scrappy cat. The other quilt she liked was my previously labeled "Ugly Quilt." </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Somehow this ugly duckling turned into a swan.... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I'm still not a fan of the little flowered prints, but piecing the leftover precut squares together for the border really helped make this comfort quilt come together.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I love the back and the minimal quilting.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Don't look too closely, I still have the binding pinned. This quilt will probably be my Spring donation to the Prayer Blanket Ministry at Blessed Trinity Church.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">As you can see, I'm working on photographing my quilts outdoors in natural light, especially now that the pollen is gone and the weather is lovely once again. The privacy screens on our pool deck are finally being put to good use.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I have my Bloom Bloom Pow Quilt-a-long fabric almost completely cut and hope to begin piecing it tomorrow. I also have a few more blocks done for the tourquoise and gray quilt and the chevron quilt is almost ready for sashing between the rows. So I'll definitely generate another post before the week is out!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">See you then,</span><br />

<span style="color: #666666;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #666666;">The other present is my copy of Victoria Findlay Wolfe's book that I ordered just one week ago.</span> </span><br />

<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Can't wait to dig in to both of these treasures.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">While my letter carrier was bringing me these luscious gifts, I was actually at the post office (Click-n-Ship at USPS.com was down all morning long).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I sent off my quilt top and pieced backing to my great friends at Missouri Star Quilt Company for them to do their magical machine quilting on my finished pieces made as part of the quilt-a-long with the <span style="color: blue;">Patchwork Posse</span> and <span style="color: blue;">the Sewing Loft</span>. Here are nine of the eleven blocks laid out in the order I planned to stitch them together. You might remember seeing some of them in earlier posts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rtgVVEVHGR0/UU33i_NDHpI/AAAAAAAAAX0/VQibKRBMdEQ/s1600/DSC02013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rtgVVEVHGR0/UU33i_NDHpI/AAAAAAAAAX0/VQibKRBMdEQ/s640/DSC02013.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The top left block is one I made up to use the left over triangle pieces from the Flying Geese block.</span> <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> I had originally planned to make this a 12 block quilt and was looking for two other blocks to include while working on the raw edge applique block. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The quilt-a-long was called Quick-As-A-Fox and had a fox as the raw edge applique piece, but the instructions from Becky at the <span style="color: blue;"><em>Patchwork Posse</em></span> didn't initially include a template for the fox as she wanted us to find the creativity within and use coloring book pages. I made my block from a cartoon cat and went wild making him into a scrappy and scraggly tabby.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E_WOo2tDciU/UU36ovu9hJI/AAAAAAAAAYg/cwCAZgDJkFU/s1600/DSC02006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E_WOo2tDciU/UU36ovu9hJI/AAAAAAAAAYg/cwCAZgDJkFU/s640/DSC02006.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I have to admit it was hard forcing myself to sew it scrappy. I kept wanting all the sewing lines to be perfect, but once I got into it, it was somewhat liberating.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">When I placed "Tom" as an homage to my childhood cat, into the mix with the other blocks, he just didn't fit. So then, still planning to make a couple of extra blocks, I decided he needed something on which to focus. What better than a grouping of birdhouses?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSflJUCZHcM/UU37wuFIfSI/AAAAAAAAAYo/9JKOIqBwL04/s1600/DSC02012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSflJUCZHcM/UU37wuFIfSI/AAAAAAAAAYo/9JKOIqBwL04/s640/DSC02012.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This block is another free pattern in Marcia Hohn's <span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/" target="_blank">The Quilter's Cache</a>. I still have pins in the birdhouse holes in the photo above. I eventually machine stitched them using a blanket stitch.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">So I played around with the arrangment and still couldn't fit the cat and birdhouses into the quilt to my liking. And then inspiration hit and voila.....they could go on the quilt back.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1-4TSi_5gJA/UU33eyWGfiI/AAAAAAAAAXw/bpI-3oCCmwg/s1600/DSC02014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1-4TSi_5gJA/UU33eyWGfiI/AAAAAAAAAXw/bpI-3oCCmwg/s640/DSC02014.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That also meant, I was done making blocks for this quilt. Good thing too, since I got a call from my good friend Aimee who asked me to help her put baskets together for a silent auction for a fundraiser to fight childhood cancer (more on that a bit later). I then decided that this quilt would be donated for the auction instead of going to the Blessed Trinity Parish prayer blanket ministry. The church will get a replacement quilt before the end of summer.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So the quilt top was pieced, sashed and bordered and measures 48" x 48". Ooh, and it looks like I finally cleaned up the guest bedroom! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aTu3eiy-K2U/UU33yFSVlpI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/gs3rRWqasik/s1600/DSC02022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aTu3eiy-K2U/UU33yFSVlpI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/gs3rRWqasik/s640/DSC02022.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Now the fun began with piecing the back together. I wanted to use the brown as the backing but didn't have enough even with the two blocks. So I framed the birdhouses similar to the quilt top with a wide pieced border and then added sashing strips to break up the large brown spaces. Tom was kept at the angle I liked in the photo above. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zqARWk_aLY8/UU33s14Z0EI/AAAAAAAAAYI/eHxZfCmXxmg/s1600/DSC02020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zqARWk_aLY8/UU33s14Z0EI/AAAAAAAAAYI/eHxZfCmXxmg/s640/DSC02020.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The plan is to use the yummy paisley print (directly above) for the binding. I know I'll get the quilt back in time for the fundraiser on April 20th.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So now, let's talk about Team Marissa.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Marissa Ierna is the beautiful 19 year old daughter of Todd and Diane who live next door to Aimee. Aimee is my good friend and was my neighbor across the street in Centreville, Virginia and what a joy that we now live only a couple miles from each other in Jacksonville, Florida. Through Aimee and Rob, we met Todd and Diane and have grown very close to their family. Marissa got me hooked on the Twilight books and soon we were buddies at the midnight premieres for each of the next films; unfortunately, Marissa could not make the very last premiere due to the effects of her chemo regimen. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Now back to the fundraiser. Todd will be the Elvis in the flyer and yes, I made his Elvis costume a few years ago. I'll have to get picture for the Maus blog.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">We'll be there to support Marissa and if you're interested in helping out....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">She'll tell you her story on her own words and you'll see how she plans to give back to Wolfson's Childrens Hospital.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Marissa: you are a remarkable young woman who embodies inspiration, grace and dignity. You go girl!</span><br />

For those "few" of you who actually read and follow this blog, ha ha....yes, I did make the meeting today, although I was a good 45 minutes late.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I walked in and Lynn was talking about Victoria Findlay Wolfe's book, <span style="color: blue;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k9fT2E2fUGs/UUUYIvxEwrI/AAAAAAAAAVY/xxJV8mT6r64/s1600/15+Minutes+of+Play.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k9fT2E2fUGs/UUUYIvxEwrI/AAAAAAAAAVY/xxJV8mT6r64/s400/15+Minutes+of+Play.jpg" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: blue;"></span></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">and showed us some sample blocks she made<span style="color: blue;"> </span><span style="color: black;">by making fabric following Victoria's </span><span style="color: black;">process. I thought to myself, that's pretty easy to do and then didn't think about it again until much later in the day. </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">After the meeting I stopped at the JoAnn Fabrics on that side of town, across the river and through the woods; </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">looking for just one fat quarter of the orange swirl print I used in my chevron quilt to augment the Swirl Charm packs by Whistler Studios at Windham Fabrics. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<br />
</span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1STh_CL35Js/UUUpnJ9b37I/AAAAAAAAAWQ/_VN0lKDM9kQ/s1600/DSC01947.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1STh_CL35Js/UUUpnJ9b37I/AAAAAAAAAWQ/_VN0lKDM9kQ/s640/DSC01947.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
</span><span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I already tried the two JoAnn's on my side of town, as well as, JoAnn's website but to no avail. After deciding earlier this month to add another four panels to each row in this quilt, I was moving along quickly until I hit the orange row and realized I didn't have enough fabric for another block. I already used most of that fat quarter for the Alzheimer's art quilt I donated last month. Hence my mad search in all the Jacksonville JoAnn Fabric stores. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I was contemplating using different fabric and taking the whole orange row apart; when the inspiration struck. I have a pile of small pieces of the orange swirl fabric in a ziploc baggie, which is my favorite way to save the small scraps. Since I do a lot of foundation paper piecing, I always keep a few small scraps just in case I need to add a smidge here or there.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So, I looked at this small orange swirl pile and thought to myself; can I make enough fabric from this? I just needed one 5" square. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The answer is yes! Thank you, Victoria, Lynn and the JMQG.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
</span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sjzTs0O4NEQ/UUUfmcERtDI/AAAAAAAAAVo/eCIRkzM1zbs/s1600/DSC01986.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sjzTs0O4NEQ/UUUfmcERtDI/AAAAAAAAAVo/eCIRkzM1zbs/s640/DSC01986.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">It's not exactly beautiful yet: a.) I need to clean up a couple of the seams at the points; b.) definitely clean up those blue chalk marks, funny how the naked eye doesn't pick these things up; and c.) the made fabric seams will all but disappear when the quilt is machine quilted. My goal is now to have this quilt completed by the end of the month. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I was so thrilled to be inspired, I ordered Victoria's book today and should get it by the end of the week. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So back to the JMQG meeting. Yes, I did donate a block and told the story about how I had this dilemma about taking back the promised paper pieced block. I made a duplicate of the one below but with a thin 1/2 inch border around the block. I'm using some paper piecing templates from </span><span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/" target="_blank">The Quilter's Cache</a> by Marcia Hohn, but didn't pay close enough attention when I made the first block. Her templates are for 12 inch unfinished blocks and they need to be adjusted since the other blocks are going to be 12 1/2 inches unfinished. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ssPQN08TxCw/UUUlj-XXFsI/AAAAAAAAAV4/yQKpkLv6iB8/s1600/DSC01988.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ssPQN08TxCw/UUUlj-XXFsI/AAAAAAAAAV4/yQKpkLv6iB8/s640/DSC01988.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">After getting home from the guild meeting [inspiration hadn't struck me yet] I decided to make another turquoise and gray block. As I was trimming the last of eight pieces for my variation of Marcia Hohn's <em><span style="color: blue;">S<span style="background-color: white;">piderweb</span></span></em> block, below....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HG_cVLwBM1s/UUUo5PMBLyI/AAAAAAAAAWA/92RvSP7yf_g/s1600/DSC01989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HG_cVLwBM1s/UUUo5PMBLyI/AAAAAAAAAWA/92RvSP7yf_g/s640/DSC01989.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FnanUPnPVA0/UUUo5lmwIrI/AAAAAAAAAWM/8mdrZlpDfPc/s1600/DSC01991.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FnanUPnPVA0/UUUo5lmwIrI/AAAAAAAAAWM/8mdrZlpDfPc/s640/DSC01991.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
t<span style="font-family: Arial;">hat's when the inspiration hit! I was thinking about the making fabric process and my baggie of small orange scraps and trimmed the last spiderweb piece exactly at the 1/4 inch mark instead of adjusting and making it 1/2 inch on the outside border. So while I solved the chevron quilt dilemma, I now have to make another corner for the spiderweb block. I'll just have to add this too perfectly trimmed corner to my stash for future fabric making.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">All in all, it was a great day. </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">See you soon,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d92XoQxlIP8/URMdzYtkplI/AAAAAAAAAOU/lBhXzuFXhiA/s1600/DSC01918.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d92XoQxlIP8/URMdzYtkplI/AAAAAAAAAOU/lBhXzuFXhiA/s400/DSC01918.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, due to that four week work commitment I had in February, I neither made the meeting nor sent in my block. Not to worry, the JMQG extended the submissions through the March meeting which is this Saturday. I decided to make a second block for the local guild since I still had lots of turquoise and gray fabric. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So I went back to the "not betsy" Lucky Stars BOM folder and made the practice block from December. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DDQYXEVsMj8/UT_izZ-7v8I/AAAAAAAAAT8/Ti0jbWDXOKs/s1600/DSC01982.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DDQYXEVsMj8/UT_izZ-7v8I/AAAAAAAAAT8/Ti0jbWDXOKs/s400/DSC01982.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I really liked how this one came out so I made the 6 1/2 inch version for my Alzheimer's Quilt which I'll talk about later this month. Anyway, I then decided to make the January block using the turquoise and gray fabrics.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ykvM-3IPxbo/UT_i36p_IlI/AAAAAAAAAUE/IMwLCuYEOHM/s1600/DSC01984.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ykvM-3IPxbo/UT_i36p_IlI/AAAAAAAAAUE/IMwLCuYEOHM/s400/DSC01984.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Of course, I couldn't stop there, so I whipped up the March "Ninja Star" block. By this time, I was beginning to envision a quilt with these blocks. While this color scheme wasn't one I would have picked on my own, it was beginning to grow on me. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f9tRmItxJ24/UT_i6ZlvmPI/AAAAAAAAAUM/WzVKLpl-qPg/s1600/DSC01980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f9tRmItxJ24/UT_i6ZlvmPI/AAAAAAAAAUM/WzVKLpl-qPg/s400/DSC01980.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For grins and giggles, I wanted to see what a potential row of these stars would look like, and began to feel it. Now I am hooked.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0CkN-1eqT40/UT_jep3KvYI/AAAAAAAAAUk/tsCuT2T5ZBE/s1600/DSC01979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0CkN-1eqT40/UT_jep3KvYI/AAAAAAAAAUk/tsCuT2T5ZBE/s640/DSC01979.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We're only on the fourth block with the Lucky Stars BOM, so I looked through my online links and found a bunch of other foundation paper piecing patterns from the <a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/" target="_blank">The Quilter's Cache </a>by Marcia Hohn. Click on her link and see the hundreds of patterns she offers for free.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The following block from Quilters Cache is called <span style="color: blue;"><em>Snowblossoms<span style="color: black;">...</span></em></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iM8JC58cEa0/UT_i_1AWnYI/AAAAAAAAAUU/DAKFvhbxovs/s1600/DSC01983.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iM8JC58cEa0/UT_i_1AWnYI/AAAAAAAAAUU/DAKFvhbxovs/s400/DSC01983.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">and then this block they call <em><span style="color: blue;">Stars and Diamonds</span></em>, which still needs to be sewn together; only the top right corner has been stitched.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Ok, I admit it, I'm out of control with these blocks and have yet to decide which one (if any) I'll bring as my donation to the JMQG meeting on Saturday. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I still have a couple of days to figure it out....or better yet, I can make more turquoise and gray blocks. I'm thinking queen sized quilt, so that would be roughly 64 blocks; add sashing and borders and maybe also a few modern minimalist blocks here and there, and we're at a king sized quilt. Enough, make me stop!!!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Tomorrow I'm teaching a basic crochet class so have to switch craft hats.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Here's the quilt top on the queen-sized guest bed. It's a 42" by 42" disappearing four patch quilt using 5" squares. I selected fabrics and colors trying for a sense of </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">whimsy.</span><br />

I have too many works in progress; and most of them are knitting WIPS that are rapidly aging since I got the quilting bug. One of the goals of the blog is to post photos of these unfinished projects as a kick in the pants to myself so I will be hopefully inspired but probably just shamed into finally finishing some of them. Today, I'll start posting the quilt projects and over the next week, I'll have to post the Knitting projects.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">Angela's Quilt</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"><span style="color: black; font-size: small;">Woo Hoo! It is totally finished but I can't post any photos until she receives it for her birthday on March 11th. Growing up, we always watched Lawrence Welk, and during one show he mentioned his upcoming birthday was on March 11th. So with the urging of Mum, Angela wrote to Mr. Welk and he sent her a birthday card every year until he passed away. Wonderful....Wonderful. </span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"><span style="color: black; font-size: small;"></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Arial; font-size: large;"><span style="color: black; font-size: small;">Angela's Quilt is my third quilt completed this year and I love how it turned out. </span> </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is going to be one of my favorite quilts and will probably go to one of the Munchkins (great nieces) who live out west. Not sure yet; I'm waiting for the quilt to tell me with whom it wants to live. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Right now with the eight panels in each row, the width is around 33 inches and the length when I add on the ninth row (Black and Gray) is at 72 inches. I think I'll add another four panels to each row which would make it around 48 inches wide without borders and binding.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I'm still playing around with the rows or order of colors in the quilt, so I may have to post a few more photos before I decide. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The fabric consists of Swirl Charm packs by Whistler Studios at Windham Fabrics purchased online from my good friends at the Missouri Star Quilt Company (MSQC). They have the best stuff and I haven't been disappointed yet. Unfortunately there wasn't equal variation by color in the charm packs, so I had to augment with fat quarters here and there. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I purchased the 4 inch flowered pre-cuts online from a well known catalogue company when I first contemplated quilting again. I absolutely hated the prints the minute I opened the package. I just don't recall them being this<span style="color: black;"> BLECH</span><span style="color: magenta;"> </span>when I ordered them; but obviously they were on sale for a reason. I matched them with gold and green since those colors are in each flowered print and with an off-white floral print. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I look at the quilt I think, <em>Hmmm, it's not that bad.</em> Then<em> </em>I fold it up and it gets buried under other projects and in my mind's eye I shudder when I think about it. I'm looking for just the right fabric for borders and backing to dress it up a bit. </span></div>

That thing I do, was something I stumbled upon way back in the early 1990's and is basically a darning function using the honeycomb stitch and free motion sewing. The result is an indestructible armor like patch on his jeans that I call "<span style="color: red;">Armor-Darning</span>." </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Let's backtrack a bit first. After my last post on February 6th, I helped a neighbor and good friend Helen coordinate a couples baby shower for another neighborhood couple, Francesca and Michael as they await the arrival of John Carlo Alexander. The shower was great and even Bubba enjoyed himself. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Last Fall, I made a few reversible flannel baby bibs and burp cloths for Francesca when I found out she was pregnant. These are from my own pattern created almost 20 years ago when I lived in Virginia. The bibs have a knit ribbed neckband for easily pulling on or off over the child's head. Thank God for the serger! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uOnz_FPpoeo/UTAcevQTC0I/AAAAAAAAAPI/0V7MsFhaFJU/s1600/DSC01860.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uOnz_FPpoeo/UTAcevQTC0I/AAAAAAAAAPI/0V7MsFhaFJU/s320/DSC01860.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Owp-4miqJZI/UTAci1fCqgI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/sgfn0s1F76k/s1600/DSC01861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Owp-4miqJZI/UTAci1fCqgI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/sgfn0s1F76k/s320/DSC01861.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the last minute (which means the night before the shower) I decided to whip up a quilt for John Carlo's room after learning it was decorated in trains. I did finish hand sewing the quilt binding literally an hour before we had to be at Helen's. All Bubba could do was watch my typical last minute frenzy and try to stay out of the way. Did I mention I was also finishing the Stromboli, prepping the prosciutto and pesto flatbread, and piping home made whipped cream onto the mini cheesecakes at the same time? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The plan of documenting my endeavors clearly failed with the last minute quilt and I forgot to photograph it before wrapping it. I'll have to visit Francesca to take a picture of the quilt in John Carlo's room.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I did photograph the spiced nut tray since that was delivered to Helen's house before the quilt madness started.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana;">This is a favorite holiday treat I've been making for a few years and the nuts have a similar flavor and texture to the roasted Bavarian nuts you get at the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. T</span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">he recipe came from a friend here in Jacksonville who probably got it from a food magazine since the printed recipe she gave me reflects page 49. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Here's the recipe and I make both individual nut batches and mixed batches using almonds, hazelnuts, pecans and walnuts ....</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So that's all for now. See you all soon.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Maus and her spouse, Bubba, drove down to Fort Lauderdale to check in on Uncle Frank who is a resident in the Alzheimer's wing of the Sandy Ninninger State Veteran's home. Uncle Frank is part of our greatest generation and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As you can see from the photo below, I initially plann</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">ed using a nice soft blue as the background.</span> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wWT4MIl_rPs/URMJzxg3nFI/AAAAAAAAAM8/GbSdD5aIJqk/s1600/DSC01905.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wWT4MIl_rPs/URMJzxg3nFI/AAAAAAAAAM8/GbSdD5aIJqk/s320/DSC01905.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Of course, I cut the pieces way too small....so I opted for a black background and I'm really happy with the result. The yellows and oranges just pop. The hand sewn binding was finally done.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">My second quilt is just a scrap-happy-crazy </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">homage to music. The backing, sleeve triangles and the binding will be the white with black musical notes print.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-huwLqZ8OyiU/URMJ3KYoiPI/AAAAAAAAANE/FxRzQ22ZY_Q/s1600/DSC01906.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-huwLqZ8OyiU/URMJ3KYoiPI/AAAAAAAAANE/FxRzQ22ZY_Q/s320/DSC01906.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My third AAQI quilt is another paper pieced design from <span style="color: blue;"><em>Piece By Number,</em> </span><span style="color: #444444;">called the <strong>Eternity Knot</strong>. For those of you who are interested in great [and many free] foundation paper piecing patterns, here is Beth's link: <a href="http://piecebynumber.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Piece By Number</a>. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444;">Again, I went right for a black background so the design would stand out. </span></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7bFmnblrUUY/URMJ7K5SuDI/AAAAAAAAANM/5AwUdJJlqJ4/s1600/DSC01921.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7bFmnblrUUY/URMJ7K5SuDI/AAAAAAAAANM/5AwUdJJlqJ4/s320/DSC01921.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I didn't want a lot of quilting to disrupt the design, so I did a little stitch in the ditch around the outside edge of the design and then five rows of straight stitching at the beginning of each corner area to frame the knot.</span> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kdZcABLOopg/URMJ_7pTMKI/AAAAAAAAANU/n6BYp09D7l0/s1600/DSC01922.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kdZcABLOopg/URMJ_7pTMKI/AAAAAAAAANU/n6BYp09D7l0/s320/DSC01922.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">My goal is to complete four or five art quilts a month between February and July. I'll post photos of the finished quilts before registering and sending them off to AAQI for auction.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Anyway, back to the vacation....Uncle Frank is doing well and we plan to return for his 90th Birthday in August.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Being on the road doesn't necessarily work for me when I need to be in the Maus Haus to finish up my quilting works-in-progress, so I took the opportunity presented by a five hour car trip south, to get out the knitting and crochet</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I teach knitting and crochet at a local craft store and during our January open house, a customer asked if I could teach her to crochet doilies. So, Ash signed up for the beginning crochet class and I promised her I would get some basic doily patterns we could work on during class. Granny Squares and Doilies (Oh my!) are not my cup of tea when it comes to crochet, but I have to give the customers what they want and tailor the classes to what the students want to make. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I clicked on my usual freebie websites and found a nice pattern for Ash. Here's the link for the pattern: </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.favecrafts.com/Crochet/Pretty-Doily-Crochet-Pattern/ct/1" target="_blank">Favecrafts Crochet Doily</a> and here's my car trip version and actually, drum roll please, <span style="color: red;"><strong><span style="color: blue;">my very first doily ever</span></strong></span><span style="color: blue;">....</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I'll have to make another of these blocks later in the month using my Lucky Stars color palette, otherwise that eventual quilt will be all over the place. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yesterday, I spent a good bit of time organizing my activities associated with all things related to the Maus blog; otherwise I was in serious danger of having the Maus turn into a huge rat. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Those of you who have been selected to review the blog and provide feedback before the big publicity push (ha ha ha ha ha), will notice I have a number of new logos and badges on the right side of the page. I put them there to remind myself there have to be limits to this endeavour. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, those badges represent the groups in which I currently have membership and have made commitments to complete projects. My goal is to limit the outreach, euphemism for over-extending the Maus, to no more than 10 groups. Since I also teach Knitting and Crochet at one of the "big box" craft stores, I have maxed out my availability and capacity for craftiness. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The ground rules have been established and I hope you, my initial followers will send out the love....a smack up the side of the head will work, when I start expanding my horizons. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today was a very productive day. I completed the third Block for the Sewing Loft and Patchwork Posse Quilt-a long....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">3D Block</span> </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_cHBeXDK2H0/UQnQ1OO5uKI/AAAAAAAAALA/SmkelYBNfRc/s1600/DSC01901.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_cHBeXDK2H0/UQnQ1OO5uKI/AAAAAAAAALA/SmkelYBNfRc/s320/DSC01901.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">12 Pockets give it the 3D effect</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The block looks complicated but it was the easiest one so far. Pictures are already </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">uploaded and posted on the Flickr site, so I'm done with the Posse until next Tuesday.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Over the weekend, I joined the Quilt-a-long with "don't call me betsy." I couldn't resist joining this one, just based on the name. Elizabeth has a significant following and I came late to this party. The other members have been playing with foundation paper piecing since the beginning of January, which caused me to worry if I could catch up. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The great thing about this group is it's a once a month activity and then the process was so easy as long as you follow the proper steps, I am now a paper piecing convert. It's actually quilting by numbers and can be very useful when working with detailed and complex designs.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's my completed block...love those pinks and greens</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">It is a bit wonky, but that's the beauty of modern quilting. The other 11 blocks for the quilt will also be stars and some are just breathtaking with the intricacy. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I also managed to photograph the various quilting works in progress (WIPs), so I had to join the WIP Wednesday group to push me to finish these quilts. I have to find a WIP support group for Knitting!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">First on the list, is the <span style="color: #ea9999;"><strong>Breast Cancer</strong></span> Lap Quilt I started for my sister, Angela when she went in for surgery. I just need to complete piecing the back once I decide how I want it to look and then send it off to have it professionally quilted using the BC ribbon motif, by my friends at the Missouri Star Quilt Company. It's a disappearing four patch pattern I found in MSQC's tutorials when I was contemplating trying quilting again.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The goal is to have the back completed and the quilt in mail by next Wednesday, Feb. 6th, so I can get it back to add the binding and then get it to Ang for her birthday in March</span>.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tomorrow, maybe I'll document another WIP and get the clock started on that one. </span><br />

Since I didn't plan to post on a daily basis, it seems I have to re-learn what to do each time I come back here. I'm sure my inexperience is quite similar to all other first time bloggers. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Over the last few days, I've been playing with the layout of the blog and adding links to my favorite sites and the blogs I follow on a regular basis. So bottom line is, I'm spending all my free time playing with this blog rather than doing anything creative, like quilting or sewing.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yesterday, my really good friend Sofia told me about her blog,<span style="color: blue;"><strong> <u>4 Creative Sisters</u>,</strong></span> which she created with three other teachers at Nansemond Suffolk Academy in Virginia. These ladies are so talented and artistic and I highly recommend you check out their blog. The link is at the bottom right side of this page. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><em><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: magenta;">Sofia: forget posting those beautiful pictures and quotes on FB, and instead put them in the blog. Your blog is so visually appealing, I'll have to get "blogging" pointers from you.</span></span></em></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I just returned from Massachusetts and the weather there was colder than normal for New England; single digit temps with double digit wind chill. I was only there for four days but will need at least a week to warm up. I </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">delivered the first completed quilt of 2013. It's a simple nine patch lap quilt for Sonya, the matriarch of our clan. Yes, Eric....I know we're German and Portuguese and not from Scotland! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So here are a couple of photos of the first officially completed quilt...</span><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mum loved the quilt; I just hope she uses it and not put it away for the future. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After returning to warm and sunny Florida, I had to catch up on the Quick as a Fox second block, Flying Geese. This is a quilt-a-long with the Patchwork Posse gang and there's a link to the group on my last post. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Quick as a Fox - Block 2</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This wasn't a particularly difficult block until I inadvertently scorched the wrong side of the fabric on the off white and green swirl triangle. Clearly, I was too focused on getting </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">perfectly flat seams to notice I left my hot iron resting on this very delicate fabric. Ouch. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So I pulled it all apart, not fun. Cut another piece of fabric and then couldn't get the pieces to fit back together again. I replaced the swirly pieces twice and sewed and ripped out the center seam at least 20 times, at which point it was time to walk away. This is where I remind myself that quilting is relaxing and enjoyable.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I finished the block, feeling like I settled on it but when I posted it to the Flickr site, my quilt-a-long friends were more than kind with their raves. Quilters are just so nice! Anyways, it's done and now on to Block #3, which is a quasi-3D process. I'll have to post photos later in the week.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Tomorrow, I need to post photos and tell you about the other in progress quilts. It's my way of pushing myself to complete these projects. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Since this is a blog to journal my quilting and other craft projects, let's see what I have going </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">on.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I've read about block of the month and other group quilt projects, but I've never done one before and thought it would be fun and a good way to meet other quilters. I joined the quilt-a-long jointly sponsored by Patchwork Posse blog and the Sewing Loft blog. Here's the link to the <a href="http://thesewingloftblog.com/2013/01/15/quilt-along-quick-as-a-fox-log-cabin/">Sewing Loft</a> if anyone is interested in joining the group or seeing the sample project quilt. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cLbZmjjY7sQ/UPmaMybkg8E/AAAAAAAAAEQ/9RV-eF9-tCw/s1600/MausInTheHaus" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">A few of us posted our </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">fabric selections; eight fat quarters (four dark prints and four light prints) are needed for the quilt. The first block is a 12.5 inch Log Cabin and here are my fabrics:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IuLgpLPjkdM/UPtnF-jYGXI/AAAAAAAAAEs/2_F36q3xjoE/s1600/Fabric+for+Quilt-a-long.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IuLgpLPjkdM/UPtnF-jYGXI/AAAAAAAAAEs/2_F36q3xjoE/s320/Fabric+for+Quilt-a-long.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Original Fabric (dark fabrics on the right)</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cvEETS4tJFE/UPtnF8TCS9I/AAAAAAAAAE0/OfHITNTmnOw/s1600/Finished+Block+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cvEETS4tJFE/UPtnF8TCS9I/AAAAAAAAAE0/OfHITNTmnOw/s320/Finished+Block+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Original Block - just didn't work for me!</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After taking the block apart and moving fabric around, I realized the color combinations needed to be changed. I removed the light green and the brown swirl, moved the gorgeous paisley to the light fabric group and added a deep green from my Christmas stash and southwestern fabric purchased for the border on another quilt. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Jv73OByXLF0/UPtnMIqZYhI/AAAAAAAAAFI/ydK2BpaTRB8/s1600/Updated+Fabric+for+Quilt-a-long.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Jv73OByXLF0/UPtnMIqZYhI/AAAAAAAAAFI/ydK2BpaTRB8/s320/Updated+Fabric+for+Quilt-a-long.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">New Fabric</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Now there is a truly visible difference between the light and dark fabrics, and I love the way the new block looks.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YeStfeFGMl0/UPtnLuyRyMI/AAAAAAAAAFE/Wwndk-j21Qo/s1600/New+Block+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YeStfeFGMl0/UPtnLuyRyMI/AAAAAAAAAFE/Wwndk-j21Qo/s320/New+Block+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second block we make will be revealed next Tuesday, so check out the blog sometime the end of next week to see my progress. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Hopefully, tomorrow I'll begin posting some of the other projects I'm working on. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">See you soon,</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Maus</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

So Happy Birthday you old lady of 59. Only one more year until the start of a new decade; hope you're ready. All kidding aside, I do want to thank you for all you do day-in and day-out for Mum. </span><br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mum and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So, why a Blog? Well, after years of reading other blogs (currently, I follow a lot of knitting and other craft and foody blogs), I said to myself, "Hmmm, that looks like fun and how hard can that be?"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I love to cook, bake and work on crafts of all kinds. With the new year, I wanted to look in another creative direction and decided to try my hand at quilting again after twenty plus years. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Needless to say, I was inspired by some truly wonderful quilting blogs and I hope to link mine to theirs in the future. My objective is to share a good story with all of you while I journey through the quilting process. I'll probably include my other craft and food projects along the way.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That's it for now. Let's see if I have the courage to post something tomorrow.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
